“Basbousa” is a traditional Middle Eastern sweet cake that originated in Egypt.
It is made from a semolina batter in a pan, sweetened with simple syrup and cut into diamond shapes. This dessert dish is very spectacular and easy to make, you should try it too!

Ingredients:
2 cups semolina
½ cup melted butter
½ cup sugar
1 cup yoghurt
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons Tahini
½ cup almonds to garnish (optional)or sugar pearls
For the syrup:
2 cups sugar
1½ cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Here's how to make it:
First prepare the syrup and let it cool.
Mix the ingredients in a bowl.
The batter will be thick not loose like cake mix.
Spread the tahini in the bottom of the pan and fill it with basbousa batter, not thicker than 2 cm.
Bake in a preheated oven 180 C for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Pour the syrup on the basbousa immediately while it is hot but the syrup should be cold.
Cut into diamond shapes and garnish with anything you have at home, I didn't have almonds so I used sugar pearls instead.
BON APPETIT!
