"Jansson's Temptation

Today I made this creamy potato and anchovies gratin which is called “Janssons frestelse”in Swedish, which means Jansson’s temptation. It is one of the most Swedish dishes.

I got this recipe from my mother-in-law.

I’m sure if you’re a fish lover you will love this one.







Ingredients:

3 onions

10 potatoes

Butter

3 cans of anchovies

1 pack of cream

1/4 pf a cup of breadcrumbs

Salt & pepper to season


Here's how to prepare it:

  • In a pan, fry the onions in 2 tablespoons of butter until they become tender & have a golden color.

  • Peel the potatoes and place them in a buttered pan.

  • Add the onions layer on the potatoes then place the anchovies.

  • Season with salt & pepper.

  • Add one more layer of potatoes.

  • Pour over the cream.

  • Sprinkle breadcrumbs and add small pieces of butter on top.

  • Bake in a preheated oven 200C for 25 minutes.
